Feedback Fanzine (UK) Review

One of the great things about being involved in the music business is that sometimes I hear albums from bands that really make me sit up and take notice and the debut from this Santa Cruz outfit is one of these. This is Space Rock with heavy psychedelic influences, so in other words if you like Hawkwind then you will think that Alientar are producing some of the finest songs around. Opening number “Sonic Wave” sounds as if it was lifted straight from one of Hawkwind’s classic albums like ‘Quark’, it is that good. But this isn’t an outfit that has just one musical string to their imaginary bow, they are out to experiment and bring in jams and improvisations with funk and a groove but all with this space rock feel about it. Some of the sounds are clear while others are heavily distorted and full of fuzz, some are literally full of space and are laid back while others are there in your face and dominant.

This album certainly gets me excited and anyone into this genre will also feel the same way, of that I am sure as songs such as “Kraz-e Naybr” show that the band aren’t content with just being influenced by one band as they also bring Floyd into the equation. It is a great debut and I can only hope that it will get the publicity that it deserves and that that the follow-up is as good. www.alientar.com
